Establish standards of excellence in focused areas and a high level competence
in all areas related to our missions of patient care, education, and research.
Provide high quality, compassionate anesthesia care, intensive care, and pain
management for our patients regardless of their disease, age, gender, race, or
socioeconomic status.
Educate medical students, residents, fellows, our professional colleagues, and
the general public, using proven traditional and innovative educational formats,
transferring knowledge and technical skills, while serving as appropriate role
models for the next generation.
Develop excellence in highly focused areas of basic science linked with
translational clinical science and outcomes research relevant to our
specialty while encouraging and supporting innovations in patient care.
Develop systems and programs within the Department linked closely with
hospitals of Strong Health,and the
University of Rochester Medical Center
that will allow us to establish a stable financial foundation to support our missions.
Serve as a model in developing effective paradigm shifts in process for success
in clinical, teaching and research endeavors that can produce models for
URMC/UR in the future.
Strategy for Implementation of our Mission
The continued expansion and focus on the educational mission as the academic
core of the Department and its faculty integrated with our patient care and
research missions.
The functional integration of the Department of Anesthesiology within the
Strong Health System in strategic and operational activities in the clinical
arena related to care of our patients with an innovative and flexible approach
encouraging the incorporation of both academic and private models of practice
into a global strategy for continued growth.
The collaborative integration of research goals of the Department of
Anesthesiology and the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology,
other Departments or scientific groupings across the University of Rochester
and in collaboration with other universities, the NIH, or industry to carry
out basic and translational clinical research focused on understanding
the science in order to enhance the care of our patients and to establish
international recognition of our science.
